Track Your Pickleball Progress with DUPR

The worldwide grading system gives players a chance to engage, hone their skills, and find avenues to play competitively.

What Is DUPR?

A comprehensive, universal appraisal system applicable to all pickleball players

The Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating (DUPR) is a global system for assessing how well pickleball players perform. It determines a rating that ranges from 2.000 to 8.000. DUPR is not so much a measure of how well someone plays in general, but of how well they play in the contexts that DUPR counts. Even though anyone can play in counted games and enter their performances, the games counted by DUPR are not at all the same types of games counted by other systems, and a player does not need to win in order for their performance to factor in the counting, either.

DUPR is very much accepted by the pickleball community. It is used by clubs, tournaments, and leagues to match players of very different skills fairly.

How to Self-Grade for DUPR

Assess your skill level before you undertake the pickleball journey

Before you go and play some matches that might affect your rank, you can take a guess at where you think you might land in the DUPR ranking system.

2.5–3.0: Novice – Grasping fundamental principles but not currently implementing them in a systematic way with any consistent level of reliability.

3.5: Intermediate – Consistent exchanges back and forth with simple strategies.

4.0: Advanced – Produces a proficient flow, employs tactical placement, and executes effective strategies.

4.5+: Competitive – Wide variety of high level shots, has a good read on the opponent’s style of play.

5.0+: Pro-level – Insane skills, a super-fast pace of play, and virtually no unforced errors.

Being part of DUPR means that you start with a rating; this rating is not very accurate at first but becomes increasingly precise the more you play actual games.

How to Get an Official DUPR Score

Monitor your progress through rated matches and tournaments

You earn an official DUPR rating by logging verified matches in these ways:

  • Through authorized competitions
  • Within leagues or clubs considered to be affiliated with DUPR
  • Players log their own matches with both parties affirming the results.

The overall score you received is based upon what you did in all the games, weighted most heavily toward your performance in the most recent games and in more difficult games.
